The Crested Butte Nordic Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching individuals about the joy of cross-country skiing through rentals, lessons, and backcountry tours of local valleys.
Things to Do
Whether you’re a novice at the sport of cross-country skiing, a seasoned expert, or are simply looking for a few hours of peaceful ice skating in Crested Butte, the Nordic Center is the place for you. There are also opportunities for gourmet backcountry dining and tours.
Lessons
The Center has a team of Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA)-certified instructors and even children’s specialist instructors ready to teach how to safely and correctly ski or snowshoe.
Adult, youth (5-16 years of age), and family lessons in cross-country skiing, all 75 minutes in length, are available. You can learn either classic or skate style. Lessons are held daily at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon, and 1:30 p.m. Lessons include rental gear and trail pass, and all lessons should be booked 24 hours in advance.
Tours
Snowshoe and ski tours through the gorgeous backcountry are conducted by the Nordic Center. Both full and half-day tours are offered. Pace and terrain are matched to ability. Tours started at 9 a.m. and noon daily. Booking 24 hours in advance is recommended.

Yurt Dining
All that skiing and snowshoeing sure can make one hungry! Introducing the Magic Meadows Yurt, accessible through a groomed trail by skis only.
The yurt comfortably seats 40 and has a deck and is heated with a wood stove. There’s an outhouse if needed! The yurt operates only between December and March.
This thrilling dining-under-the-stars experience features a five-course meal accompanied by a wide variety of specialty cocktails, beers, and wines; food is prepared by a private chef schooled in classic European and American artisanal techniques and products. Live music, trail passes, rental equipment, and guides are all included in the package.
Ice Skating
Next to the Center, you’ll find an ice skating rink owned and operated by the town of Crested Butte. Ice skating in Crested Butte at this rink is available at both winter and summer rates, free if you bring your own skates (though adult and child rentals are available).
Directions
Getting to the Crested Butte Nordic Center is easy from most lodgings. Simply take well-known Elk Avenue to the cross-street of 2nd Street; traveling east, you would turn right onto 2nd Street and the Center will be about a quarter mile on the right.
