CBMR Adventure Park

If your kids want to enjoy a little bit of adventure besides skiing for their trip, the CBMR Adventure Park will give them everything they need. Conveniently located at the base of the Crested Butte Mountain Resort and close to Crested Butte rentals, this attraction features many different activities to keep them occupied when they’re not on the mountains.

It’s open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Within the Adventure Park, check out the Flying Gopher Miniature Golf Course. The Flying Gopher Mini Golf Course is an 18-hole mini golf course that is open year-round. Even though it’s outdoors, the entire course is under a covered structure so you and your kids can enjoy it in any weather. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Coke Zero Gravity Bagjump is the perfect activity to get a real adrenaline rush. You climb up your choice of a 24-foot or 32-foot platform and jump onto a huge 50 by 50-foot inflated bag. Adults and kids alike can enjoy this exhilarating activity for some true fun!

The Powerade Bungy Jump Trampoline keeps the adrenaline pumping, taking you from the ground into the air. You’ll be strapped into a harness and go flying and flipping up to 30 feet in the air.

The Zipline features 6 suspended wooden decks for you to zip from. You’ll get an amazing view of the beautiful mountains and ski area as the guides bring you and your kids down five zip lines! Zip lines are between 120-400 feet long, and the entire activity usually lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. There are also rock-climbing walls for more athletic family members. It features six different paths that go up to almost 30 feet in the air.

The CBMR Adventure Park is the perfect choice for blood-rushing activities for you and your kids. But what if you’re wanting something a bit calmer?

Trailhead Children’s Museum

If you’re looking for a slower-paced activity where children can view and learn new things, the Trailhead Children’s Museum is perfect for you. This Crested Butte museum offers many education opportunities for toddlers up to elementary-age children.

In the winter and spring, children in kindergarten up to fifth grade can enjoy a Wednesday After School Art program. They will participate in many art and textile activities, such as metalworking, woodworking, traditional art mediums from around the world, weaving, dyeing, sewing, and printing.

They can also participate in many hands-on projects and activities through School Break Camps that take place during each major school break. For example, kids can enjoy the Art + History Camp in March.

There is also a host of amazing programs for children to enjoy in the summer at the Trailhead Children’s Museum. These include programs such as Art Outside the Box, Explore, Create, Play, Museum Explorers, Outdoor Play Date, Private Art Lesson, and Valley Voyagers.

Your children will love the chance to learn, participate in engaging activities, and associate with other children their age in these programs. Make sure you register before the deadline so your children can fully enjoy the experience!

Of course, you don’t want your children to spend the entire time inside. So, what about enjoyable outside activities?

Lower Loop Trail Woods Walk

If you’re wanting to spend time as a family while enjoying nature, the Lower Loop Trail Woods Walk is an excellent choice for you. This wonderful trail is among the best hikes in Crested Butte, and for good reason.

Located close to town for easy access, this trail is one of the easiest trails in the area. Your children can experience hiking without difficulty. Though the trail is only 2.8 miles long, it is full of amazing views and beautiful scenery to enjoy during the approximately 1.5-hour walk.

For example, you’ll walk through a beautiful aspen grove for the first quarter mile and then be treated to a spectacular vista of Gothic Mountain, Peanut Lake, and Mount Crested Butte. In the end, you can take the Lower Loop Trail or go left onto the Bud Trail and continue to the Upper Lower Loop.

Your family will love the view of the plentiful wildflowers in the summer and the golden views of the aspens in fall. There are plenty of junctions and detours along the way for a closer look at nature. The trail is also pet- and bike-friendly, so you can bring your pets or get some exercise while you’re at it!

Fantasy Ranch Outfitters

Finally, you and your family can fulfill your horseback riding fantasies through any of the numerous adventures at Fantasy Ranch Outfitters. You and your kids will be able to travel through the mountains and valleys of Crested Butte on a horse chosen to fit you.

You can choose to take it easy with the Snodgrass Mountain trail rides or ramp up the adventure by packing up and traveling farther out to the wilderness. Either way, you and your kids will have experienced wranglers that will keep you safe and show you the time of your life.

The minimum age for trail rides is eight years old and the maximum weight is 225 pounds. This ensures you, your family, and the horses will be safe as you ride.

The basic ride lasts 1.5 hours. You’ll go through wildflower fields and streams, pass beaver ponds, and wind through the aspen groves. You can also choose to go on a 2.5-hour ride that will take you higher up the mountain for an incredible panoramic view.

As you can see, there is no shortage of fun activities for you and your kids to enjoy in Crested Butte.

You can get your family’s blood pumping at the CBMR Adventure Park or focus on education activities at the Trailhead Children’s Museum.
