Totem Pole Park
Totem Pole Park stands out because of the terrific piece of public art that gives it its name. Built from a 30-foot-tall spruce tree that had fallen and now standing proud to watch over Crested Butte, the totem pole is a shared and interactive landmark that holds a story of its own.
In 1973, two artists wanted to influence the Crested Butte Arts Festival by encouraging more of an “interactive art” theme. The end result? Six woodworkers were responsible for carving something significant and eye-catchingly beautiful out of huge tree sections.
Without any major planning or sketch inspirations, they went to work. Hence the totem pole. They didn’t expect it to last nearly a decade, let alone 40+ years, yet it has! These days, it continues to be adored by all who visit.
You’ll find shady areas with picnic tables, flower gardens, and access to the iconic Coal Creek. Another appealing feature of the park is the fact that all of its encompassing areas are dog-friendly, so there is no need to leave man’s best friend at home. Overall, it is a really relaxing place to enjoy your day and is located in downtown Crested Butte. Open to the public from sunrise to sunset, it’s a vision of beauty any time of day.
Three Ladies Park
You can visit Three Ladies Park at 07 Maroon Avenue Crested butte.
Three Ladies Park is a family-friendly park that young kids will have a blast at because of their playground and picnic shelter. It’s also a beautiful location due to the views of Slate River Valley. Three Ladies honors the three women injured during a tragic Crested Butte State bank explosion in 1990. The park is now a symbol for community and gathering closer during times of tragedy.
Many will go to relax in a casual and calm environment with their family. Three Ladies Park is truly a picturesque place in one of Colorado’s most iconic natural valleys, and you will definitely want to create memories with your family here.
